Jan Hansen has been a member of the WAMSB Judges Bureau since 2001. His jury experience includes marching, show and parade band assignments at several different national, international and world championships in Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the United Kingdom and was a two-time jury member of the Kerkrade World Music Contest.

As a member of different musical boards in Denmark, he is past chairman of the union of music schools in greater Copenhagen. Jan started playing trumpet at the age of six and is currently the director of the music school in Hoeje-Taastrup, Denmark. He was a member of the Copenhagen Tivoli Boys Guards Band in Copenhagen from 1972 to 1978. In addition to private trombone studies,  Jan attended the University of Copenhagen.

His school music teaching career began in 1982 as a brass instructor. He was the music director of the Ballerup Guard from 1986 to1993, and was the conductor of the Zealand Police Band. He was also a performing member of several professional bands and orchestras including the Band of the Royal Life Guard, the Tivoli Big Band, and the Royal Theatre Orchestra.

Jan is a founding member of TAOPA in Denmark.
